How to report technical bugs?

We’re sorry to hear you’ve encountered a technical issue with one of LanguageTool’s applications. We’re here to help resolve the problem as quickly as possible.


If you’ve already reviewed our troubleshooting articles but couldn’t find a solution, you can contact our Support team for assistance.


Steps to report a bug 

Please reach out to our Support team via support@languagetoolplus.com and include answers to the following questions:

  1. What issue are you experiencing? Provide a brief description of the problem you are facing.

  2. Which LanguageTool platform is affected by the issue? Please specify between browser extension, Word add-in, desktop app, or iOS-app. 

  3. Browser-specific details: If you’re using the browser extension, which browser are you using?

    • Please share the URL of the page with the issue.

  4. What version of the extension, Word add-in, or desktop app are you using?  What version of the extension, Word add-in, or desktop app are you using? For example, "Browser Extension on Chrome, version 8.18.11."

  5. What operating system is running on your device? For example, "Windows 11," "macOS 14.2," or "iOS 17.3."

  6. Which language are you using for LanguageTool?

  7. Steps to reproduce the issue: What specific steps are you taking when the bug occurs? Be as detailed as possible.

  8. Visual evidence (optional): If possible, include screenshots or screen recordings of the issue.

The more details you provide, the easier it will be for our team to investigate and resolve the problem.

What platforms does LanguageTool offer?

We offer LanguageTool on the following platforms: 

  • The Desktop app (macOS or Windows) 
    When you have downloaded the LanguageTool program on your computer. You can find more information here.

  • The Microsoft Word add-in 
    When you have added the add-in to your Word. More information can be found here.

  • One of our browser extensions 
    When you’ve added LanguageTool to one of the following browsers:

    • On Chrome

    • Firefox

    • Safari 

    • Microsoft Edge 

  • iOS App 
    When you’re using LanguageTool on your iPhone or iPad.

What version of the extension/Word add-in/desktop am I using?

To find out which version of the app you are using, you can figure this out in the following ways: 

  • macOS App: On your desktop, find the app with the search bar. Open the app, click LanguageTool in the menu bar, and select About LanguageTool to find the version.

  • Windows App: On your desktop, find the app with the search bar. Open the app, go to Help or Settings, and check the version under About.

  • Word Add-in: Open Word, click the LanguageTool icon in the toolbar, and find the version under Settings or Help.

Where to find your version on the Word add-in 


Which operating system am I running?

  • ? MacOS: Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner, select About This Mac, and find the macOS version listed at the top.

  • ? Windows: Press Windows + R, type winver, and press Enter to see the Windows version. Alternatively, go to Settings > System > About and check the Windows specifications section.

  • ? Mobile Devices (iOS/Android):

    • iOS: Open Settings > General > About, and find the iOS version under Software Version.

    • Android: Open Settings > About phone/About device > Software Information, and find the Android version listed.
